Rock and Roll Creation

Chris Beckett gave me a peek at one of the UFO pages that has been coloured by Osmarco Valladao. Loved it and wanted to share a bit of it without showing too much. So....

Panel progression time, again! Follow the creation of a panel from chicken scratch to final form. Well maybe not "final" form, it still needs to be lettered... but you get the idea.

That's beautiful. Nice work, Jason (and Osmarco)!

really cool. Question for you: going from panel 1 to 2, do you just erase all the pencil work or are you doing a light box or somthing similar?

Kevin - Thanks!

Mike - I scan in the rough and then, once I have tinkered with it in Photoshop to make sure it works, I print it out in non-photo blue. I then pencil over that and then scan it in. I've been doing my penciling at a smaller scale than normally done in comics. Roughly at 6"x9.75". It speeds up the penciling and it gives me a better sense of what the final page will look like when done. Also, it makes me put in less detail, which seems to be my MO, and focus more on the main "action" of the panel.

Mike, I was wondering that too! And Jason, I really like the angle you used on this. Good movement!
